What is an Earlier Year Update or EYU?

An Earlier Year Update (EYU) is a notification to HMRC informing them that one or more of the figures you sent them on your payroll RTI reports for a previous tax year was wrong.

Your PAYE bill may be wrong if you made a mistake, such as recording a team member’s pay as being higher or lower than it actually was and you can correct this using an EYU.

When submitting an EYU you need to show the difference between what you should have reported and what you actually reported.

You can submit an EYU using HMRC’s Basic Tools software, you can also do this very easily in Paycircle.
